Our Story · Nhasang Vietnamese Restaurant & Café in Montréal

Where It Began

Founded in 2020 as a family-led evolution of Paris Pho, Nhasang came into public focus in 2023 as Montréal’s first dedicated Vietnamese specialty coffee house.

Nhasang was born from a moment of clarity: Vietnamese coffee deserved a space of its own.

Before Nhasang, Vietnamese coffee in Montréal was largely limited to condensed milk coffee served as an afterthought inside restaurants. There was no café dedicated to the craft itself — no place focused on phin-dripped coffee, egg coffee, or modern Vietnamese coffee variations as a primary offering.

That changed with Nhasang.

The Festival Roots

The concept first appeared at a major Montréal food festival, where Vietnamese specialty coffee was introduced as the centerpiece rather than a side item. The response was immediate.

Demand was strong enough that the café opened shortly after — not as a long test phase, but as a direct answer to public interest. What began as a single festival presence quickly became a permanent location, driven by momentum rather than speculation.

A New Standard for Vietnamese Coffee

Nhasang established itself as Montréal’s first dedicated Vietnamese specialty coffee house, redefining the city’s relationship with Vietnamese coffee beyond the traditional restaurant setting.

The menu centers on phin-dripped Vietnamese coffee, including egg coffee (Cà Phê Trứng) and layered modern variations. Each drink is prepared fresh, with techniques adapted for consistency and quality while respecting traditional flavor profiles.

Vietnamese coffee is not treated as nostalgia here — it is treated as a craft.

Montréal’s First On-the-Spot Canning

Nhasang was also the first in Montréal to introduce seal-on-the-spot can packaging for drinks and desserts.

Beverages are prepared fresh and sealed immediately, preserving flavor, temperature, and texture. The same approach extends to select desserts, including cakes packaged in cans — a format designed for freshness, portability, and clarity rather than novelty.

This system became a defining feature of the café, combining transparency with innovation.

The Arrival of Num Banh Chok

Beyond Vietnamese coffee, Nhasang introduced another first to the city: authentic Cambodian Num Banh Chok.

The dish is prepared with traditional rice noodles and a light yet aromatic kroeung-based fish gravy made from hand-deboned fish and fresh lemongrass. It is herb-forward, balanced, and deeply rooted in Cambodian culinary tradition.

At the time of its introduction, Num Banh Chok was not available elsewhere in Montréal in its traditional form.

A Family Evolution (Paris Pho Legacy)

Nhasang operates as part of a family continuum.

The café is located at the same address as the family’s previous restaurant, Paris Pho. Ownership did not change — what changed was direction. Under the daughter’s leadership, the concept evolved to meet the standards of a new generation while honoring the foundation built by her parents.

Vietnamese coffee became the focus, and the pho program was refined. The broth was reworked for balance and clarity, while meat toppings use premium halal-certified AAA beef, communicated transparently and without overclaiming.

This evolution represents continuity rather than replacement: the same family, the same location, and a new generation shaping what comes next.
